Protect yourself

Based on World Health Organization guidance. This is not medical advice.

Symptoms
Sudden fever, tiredness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat, followed by vomiting, diarrhoea and rash. Some patients bleed. Symptoms can start 2 to 21 days after infection.
How it spreads
Through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of a sick person or someone who died of Ebola, or with objects contaminated by them. It does not spread through the air, and people cannot pass it on before they have symptoms.
Prevention
Wash your hands often. Avoid touching the body fluids of sick people and the bodies of people who died of an unknown illness. Use safe burial teams. The licensed vaccine protects against Zaire ebolavirus only, not Bundibugyo or Sudan virus.
If you feel unwell
If you have a fever within 21 days of travelling to an affected area or being near a patient, keep away from other people and call your nearest health facility or the Ministry of Health before you go in. Early care saves lives.
